11 Best Tips Not to Forget Before Carrying your Cat On Vacation

It happend every years, thousands of families  face the same question should we take pet with us on vacation or leave him behind . As a member of your family your pet is entitle to share fun of travelling and vacation with you.On the other hand some pets take all the pleasure out of your vacation tour, think well a week or two before deciding.

While caring your pet specially cats to vacation tour there are certain things to keep in mind,

1.Travelling Carrier

When you take cat along with you try best to have  a comfortable cat carrier.Most of cats can easily adjust to riding in a car in carrier. cat Carrier should be durable, should be roomy enough so your cat will be able to stand and move around. Weeks before your trip on the road, position the carrier in one of your cat's favorite napping areas,so that your cat could easily adjust with it.The door of the carrier can be removed so it can be used indoors.

2. Spread blanket on carrier bottom

 At the bottom part, you can spread her blanket, which she has just slept on or any of the clothes you have just used but not yet washed. From time to time, place her favorite treats inside the carrier. However, if your cat does not fall for this, you need to feed her with regular cat food while she is inside the carrier.

3. Do not allow movement

To keep both of you safe from harm, do not allow your cat to move about when you are driving. Some unpleasant things may take place. You may get distracted and this may lead to a serious accident. Or else, she might get thrown away or get hurt when the car suddenly stops. For your cat to remain calm and comfortable, you can use a towel to cover the carrier while the car is in motion. Know what is best for your cat.

4.Encourage the use of a litter box

Whenever you are home, encourage your pet cat to use the kitty litter box by adding new litter to it. Cats that are not used to riding in a car usually vomit inside their carriers within the first 20 minutes of the trip. In case this happens, be sure to buy diapers and use them to cover the bottom part of the carrier. They are absorbent and disposable, making it easy to clean up as the unexpected happens.

5.Take some short break

Cats, like people, can not  stay in one position for a long period, they need to stretch her legs. Once your car reaches a stop, place her leash then let her go out to drink water and have a litter break.

6.Place mark of identification

There are times when cats get lost at stop over places. They can easily go out of an open door or window crack. Do not forget to include some identification on the collar as well as the details of people that can be contacted in the event of an emergency when you are far from home. Also take along a recent photo of your cat if ever you have to print flyers when something happens.

7. Cat meal

When traveling with your cat,take enough amount of meal with you so you do not need to buy during your vacation,as your cat is used to eating it at your home. Some time cats do not like and eat the meal with different taste bought from drive-through stores because they are not used to of that meal.

8. Bring plenty of water

Be sure to bring plenty of water with you, but only give it to your cat when you are parked.  Do not leave a water bowl in your cat's carrier while driving,  it will only spill and make a mess, and you will end up with a wet unhappy cat.  It may also help to bring a gallon jug of the water your cat drinks at home whether it is tap water or filtered water.  Cats won't always drink water that tastes different.

9. Do not feed your cat before leaving

Don't feed your cat the morning of your trip, or while you are driving.  They will be just fine only eating in the evening for a day or two, and it will minimize the risk of your cat vomiting in their carrier during the trip.

10. Park vehicle in the shadow

 In case you need to leave your cat in the car for whatever reason like you need to go to the bathroom, make sure to park in the shade, open your windows a bit then come back as soon as you can.

11. Take some cat medication with you

If your cat gets anxious while traveling, medication might be an option to help them feel more comfortable.If you must bring the hyperactive cat with you, medication to sedate the kitty will surely make the trip safer, easier and less stressful for both you and the cat,Talk to your vet to see what options you have. Once you have the medication, the key is to give it to your cat well before the trip starts.Your vet might give you a prescription, or another suggestion to help ease their anxiety. Some cats also get carsick, and you might need a medication for this as well. Make sure to have your vet show you how to give a pill to your cat if you've never done it before.
